Take a read of this ancient article from way back in 2003! My buddy and I decided one day that we needed to be active in helping resolve some of the issues that our friends around us in college were facing. Rather than think small, we decided to lobby Congress directly for the DREAM Act. Yes, this was the original Act from which the term 'DREAMERS' was coined. It is used in reference to students and children brought to the US at a young age without proper documentation.

Regardless of your political views or mine there is a moral behind this experience. As young adults, we took initiative, and organized those students and their supporters to go through the proper channels, and engage with our incredible democratic process to affect change.

I learned a lot from that experience!

1. You need purpose in life

2. Think big and act big

3. Lead others with a vision of what is possible even if it seems impossible and insurmountable

4. Don't be afraid of failure. Although we did not succeed at that time, what we did was create coverage for a topic that never went away, and in 2012 elements of the proposals we fought for so hard took affect.

5. Be Results driven: Results sometimes take a long time, patience, and perseverance. Our results came in 9 years later

6. Do something. Don't complain. Act positively and do something.
